I'm on the ground. Chris screams. Mugger No. 1 stares at Chris. Mugger No. 2 fights for my purse.
Israeli attack leaves truce in tatters as peacekeepers arrive
THE ceasefire in war-torn Lebanon was last night on the brink of collapse after Israeli special forces clashed with guerrillas deep inside the country and only a handful of United Nations peacekeepers trickled into the region. Israeli jets and commandos launched the first major attack on Hezbollah since the 34-day war between the two sides was halted by a UN-imposed truce on Monday. Three guerrillas and one Israeli officer were killed. .
Sharapova advances in Carson
Maria Sharapova found herself in trouble in the first set before escaping in the second when her opponent retired because of breathing problems Wednesday night. Sharapova advanced 7-6 (5), 3-1 over Eleni Daniilidou in her opening match at the East West Bank Classic. Daniilidou called for a medical timeout and then walked to the net to shake hands with the top-seeded Russian. No. 3 Ana Ivanovic played qualifier Ashley Harkleroad in a late match. Sharapova walked over to Daniilidou's chair and spoke briefly with her Greek opponent, who had been sick the last four days. A bug has spread among some players recently. Parties edgy on eve of counting
