The ancient Chinese therapeutic technique using fine needles was incorporated back into the state's workers' compensation system as of June 15 by the California Division of Workers' Compensation. After the state's workers' compensation reform of 2003, while officials were trying to curb medical costs, many patients were denied regular acupuncture treatments during a debate over the method's effectiveness. "This is a huge victory for acupuncture and for patients and their choice for medical treatment," said Ted Priebe, chief executive officer of the National Oriental Medicine Accreditation Agency. The state's Division of Workers' Compensation reinstated the treatment by adopting "Colorado's guidelines" for acupuncture treatment.
