Alternative Menopause Treatments

Although high-tech medicine has pioneered superb emergency and diagnostic techniques, solutions for managing age-related conditions such as menopause are often limited. In the past decade, baby boomer consumer demand has ignited a worldwide explosion in anti-aging medical research. As a result, nutritional and herbal alternatives to traditional hormone therapies are being seriously examined as a way of providing gentle, safe and effective relief from menopause symptoms.

Researchers, physicians and menopausal women are finding that soy foods and/or Chinese herbs deliver optimal nutrition while enhancing emotional and physical health during menopause. Dale Prokupek, M.D., a board-certified gastroenterologist practicing in Beverly Hills, Calif., recommends that women over 40 start eating four ounces of soy daily to ensure a healthier, easier change of life.

A death well planned

On a November day just before Thanksgiving in 2005, Joan Rademacher, a 72-year-old woman with breast cancer, sat at a kitchen table in Madison with her hospice nurse, drinking tea and discussing the progression of the disease.

The bumpy, reddened skin that at first had been contained to Rademacher's chest had crept to her back and arms. It looked like a rash but was in fact the tumor spreading.

"Are you in pain right now?" asked Cathy Sutter, the hospice nurse.

Canada: Sleep Supplements Found to Contain Habit-Forming Drug

Health Canada advised consumers not to use Optimum Health Care SleePlus TCM or BYL SleePlus, saying the products contain the undeclared drug clonazepam, which can be habit-forming when used for a few months.

Consumers are advised to consult with a healthcare professional before they stop taking the pills because of the risk of withdrawal symptoms, said Health Canada.

Optimum Health Care SleePlus TCM and BYL SleePlus have different names but are the same formulation, and both products are promoted as a sleep aid, the agency said. The products are not authorized for sale in Canada.

The side-effects associated with the use of products containing clonazepam vary according to the individual and can include dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, depression, loss of memory and hallucinations, Health Canada said.

August 2007

I recently emailed Col. Steve Boylan asking for whatever information he could provide regarding the status of the investigation of Scott Thomas Beauchamp. Here is his response:

His command's investigation is complete. At this time, there is no formal what we call Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) actions being taken. However, there are other Administrative actions or what we call Non-Judicial Punishment that can be taken if the command deems appropriate. These are again administrative in nature and as such are not releasable to the public by law.

We are not stonewalling anyone. There are official statements that are out there are on the record from several of us and nothing has changed.

We are not preventing him from speaking to TNR or anyone.
